Open Call: Winterwerft 2026: TURN THE TIDE

ree

To all theatre makers, dancers, painters, storytellers, sculptors, performance artists, musicians, photographers, activists, speakers and filmmakers.

We have opened our open call for the program for the three weekends of Winterwerft 2026 until November 15, 2025 (January 30-February 1 & February 6-8 & February 13-15).

The Winterwerft focuses on addressing the major crises of our time: ecological collapse, social inequality, and increasing alienation. More importantly, what are the formative cultural narratives that have led us to this point? How did the ideas of unlimited growth, linear progress, independence, and separation from the natural world emerge—and what can replace them? The Winterwerft seeks out and presents theater that addresses these issues and dares to shift perspectives in form and content.

Anyone who follows world events these days—and then takes a step back—can't help but get the impression that something has started to happen. Developments that have been progressing for decades, even centuries, seem to have entered a phase of acceleration.

A flood is coming. For some of us, the water is still around our ankles, while for others it's already up to our necks.

Tides come and go. We're searching for the turning points, the islands and boats, the lugworms and sandpipers. Those who take a deep breath and dive in to get to the bottom of things. Those who stand in the surf until the wave breaks.

For the Winterwerft, we are seeking works that address this topic. All formats are welcome, including works in their development phase. We are particularly interested in artists from the local scene. We also expressly welcome applications from artists who have experienced discrimination, as well as works that strive for accessibility.
