Yawar K’ancha is a practice developed by the Teatro de Los Andes that explores the actor’s pre-expressive work. It creates a dialogue between contemporary theater techniques and the living cultural roots of the Andean region. Rather than reenacting a traditional ritual or a folkloric dance, the workshop uses these cultural sources as a starting point for physical and scenic explorations aimed at developing presence, listening, connection, and collective energy.
In this workshop, we will explore the following topics:
• Breath and sound
• Physical and energetic training
• Rhythm and collective pulse
• Presence and openness
• The encounter of bodies
• Gaze, connection, and theatrical engagement
• The three levels of the Andes: Ukupacha, Kaypacha, and Hanaqpacha
• Transformation, dissolution, and rebirth
The practice is based on principles such as complementarity, reciprocity (Ayni), and community (Ayllu), and views theater and creative work as a collective act.
The exercise is physically demanding and requires physical readiness as well as a willingness to engage with the process. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring water.
