OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS – Sommerwerft 2025 #GrowingTogether
Calling all artists from the performing arts and music – join us and apply for a stage in public space by April 18, 2025!
From July 25 to August 10, 2025, the "Sommerwerft" invites you to the eastern bank of the Main River in Frankfurt for the 24th time. The area at the Weseler Werft shipyard will be transformed into a space for culture, community, and dialogue. We aim to shape it with regional, national, and international performances, as well as with your contribution. We are looking for ideas and concepts from theater, dance, performance, music, poetry, sound, spatial, and installation art – on stage or site-specific. We are open to a wide variety of forms and approaches.
GROWING TOGETHER
We grow, grow, grow. But where are we growing towards and why? In times of climate crisis, the promise of eternal growth has been shaken. In the past, we understood coexistence on Earth primarily through the lens of competition and the "right of the strongest." Today, however, the principles of cooperation, sharing, and communicative intelligence in nature are increasingly being emphasized—particularly in the way trees and the forest communicate with each other. In a time of social fragmentation and political polarization, we should not only ask how we can save the trees, but also what we can learn from them in order to grow together again.
With Sommerwerft 2025, we want to explore new ways of dealing with the challenges of our time. We want to find a way of dealing with these challenges that is collective, inclusive, and based on solidarity, and that remembers the rich cultural heritage of our region. Because scientific findings alone are often not enough to bring about true transformation. Culture, especially theater, has the ability to evoke emotions and facilitate profound changes in attitudes and perspectives.
